Abstract
Erythrocyte and plasma Na-K values were term diuretic therapy. The following results were
observed..
1. In normal persons, erythrocyte Na-K values were 19.39¡¾4.0 mEq/L 97.76¡¾4.17 mEq/L respectively, plasma Na-K value were 140.8¡¾3.01 mEq/L
and 4.15¡¾0.31 mEq/L respectively.
There was no difference in these values in both sexes.
2. No significant change in Na-K values was observed in normal persons after short-term diuretic therapy.
3. No significant change iii erythrocyte and plasma Na-K values was observed between patients of mild and moderate hypertension, but erythrocyte Na value was significantly higher than in normal persons.
There was no difference in these values in both sexes of hypertensive patients.
4. No significant change in erythrocyte Na-K values and plasma Na value was observed in patients of mild and moderate hypertension after long term Esidrex therapy but a significant decrease in mean B.P. and plasma Na value was observed.
5. No significant change in erythrocyte and plasma Na-K values was observed in patients of severe hypertension before and after treatment but erythrocyte Na value in patients of severe hypertension before treatment was significantly higher than in patients of mild and moderate hypertension. Therefore the rate of increase in erythrocyte Na value showed close parallel correlation with severity of hypertension.
6. No significant change in erythrocyte K and plasma Na-K values was observed in patients of compensated valvular heart disease but RBC Na value was significantly higher in patients of compensated valvular heart disease than in normal persons.
7. The rate in increase in erythrocyte -Na value showed close parallel correlation with severity of heart failure and a significant change in erythrocyte K and plasma Iota values besides RBC Na value was observed in patients of severe CHF.
8. There is no difference in these values in both sexes of patients of heart disease.
9. The high erythrocyte Na value in patients of
